Free Baby Shower Game Ideas

Guess the food

This game is fun, and can be played throughout the shower at your guests' leisure!  The object of the game is for your guests to identify the type of baby food that is in an unlabeled, unopened jar.

What you'll need:

  • A few jars of baby food.  Make sure the jars are see-through. The number you choose is up to you.  Between 6 - 8 is a good number, and should only cost a few dollars.  (The mom-to-be can actually use the food for baby later.)
  • Paper for each of your guests and something for them to write with.
  • A permanent marker to number the jars.
  • Something for the participants to put their answer sheets in.  (A basket, box, plastic container, etc.)

Before the shower, number each of the jars. Remove each of the labels, one at a time, making a list of jar # and type of food as you go.  That list will be your answer key.  Also, decide how you'll determine a winner in the case of a tie.

At the shower, simply line up the jars on a table with the paper and pens close by.  Explain the object to your guests (see above), and tell them you'll announce the answers and determine a winner later at the shower.  Be sure to tell them they MAY NOT open the jars!  Remind them to write their name on the answer sheet, and tell them where they should place the sheet when they are finished.

Guess the item

This game is best for a baby shower with a smaller guest list as it does take some time.  The object of the game is for your guests to determine what baby objects are in the bag WITHOUT LOOKING and within a stated amount of time.

What you'll need:

  • A bag, ideally plastic and most importantly, not see-through.
  • A variety of baby items - about 10 - 12 will do.  You can buy the items, or you can see if friends or neighbors have some spares.  Some ideas are listed below.
  • A stopwatch, or a watch with a second hand.
  • Paper for each of your guests and something for them to write with.
  • Decide how to determine a winner in the case of a tie.

The rules to tell your guests are as follows:

  • Each guest will place their non-writing hand in the bag, where it will stay throughout the game.
  • They will have one minute - you'll be timing them - to feel the objects in the bag and write them down as they go.
  • They may not look, and they may not remove the item from the bag at any time.
  • After everyone has taken their turn, you'll remove the items from the bag one at a time.
  • The person who determined the most items wins.

One thing to note, make sure you hold the bag fairly securely around the guest's arm so that no one can see its contents.

As for the baby items:  You can get a lot of ideas by walking down any baby aisle at any discount store, but here are some ideas: clean diaper; jar of baby food; rattle; baby spoon; bib; burp cloth; trial size baby shampoo, lotion or powder; baby sock; pacifier; baby bottle; sippy cup; rubber duck; small stuffed animal; baby washcloth; baby toothbrush.

HERE'S A BONUS:  Depending on how much you want to spend and what you want to buy, you can use the items in the bag as a gift for Mom!  As you reveal what's in the game bag, place each item in a basket or gift bag.  It's a baby shower game AND a baby shower gift all in one!

Clothespin Game

This is a great game to play throughout the baby shower.  The object is to be the person with the most clothespins at the end of the game.

All you need is one clothespin for each of your guests.  You'll also have to determine what the guest shouldn't do.  For example, Guest A can take Guest B's clothespins if Guest B says the word 'baby' or 'cute' or any other word you choose.  Another variation is that clothespins can be won if legs or arms are crossed.

The rules to tell your guests are as follows:

  • Each guest starts out by wearing one clothespin.
  • The object is to be the guest with the most clothespins at the end of the game.
  • Clothespins are 'won' when one guest catches another (saying or doing whatever you've determined).
  • The 'loosing' guest will have to hand over ALL of their clothespins to the person who caught them.
  • Even if a guest is left without any clothespins, they are still in the game - they can win clothespins back from any guest!

Note that you can decorate the clothespins to add some extra flair or even to have them do double-duty as a party favor!  Paint or embellish them to your heart's content.  If you want to get ideas or if don't have the time to do it yourself, check out our pre-made Clothespin Game

Free Baby Shower Activity Ideas

Framed Photo Mat

This baby shower activity is really simple, but can make a great keepsake!  Each guest signs a photo mat to make a lasting memento of the baby shower.

Simply purchase an inexpensive photo mat and frame and have a pen available for your guests.  Make sure the mat is wide enough to allow adequate space for people to write.  You might even be able to find an extra-wide mat with a smaller photo opening.

Explain the purpose to your guests at the baby shower, and have them sign the mat before the party concludes.  Be sure to remind people to sign during the shower.
